Our preschool classroom gives your child an opportunity to learn through play. Your child will also be learning their social skills as they interact with their peers during the class. There are three preschool classes offered at our school. The preschool classroom uses creative curriculum during our weekly lessons. The philosophy behind creative curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning isn’t just repeating what someone else says; it requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand about the world we live in. The curriculum helps children become independent, self-confident and inquisitive learners. Each month our creative curriculum consists of a different study. We will learn about the beginning of the school year, trees, balls, music, clothing, buildings, animals, recycling and exercise. Our two day a week class is a condensed version of the three day a week class. If the child attends all five days they will repeat the lessons for the week.
The pre-kindergarten program at the Center for Early Learning is specifically designed to prepare your child for kindergarten. We accomplish this by providing meaningful learning experiences that promote social, emotional, cognitive, physical, creative, and spiritual growth. Daily activities are based on Ohio’s Early Learning and Development standards and are guided by Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum that uses exploration and discovery to foster learning. We believe that children learn best through constructive, purposeful play and support this by providing child-centered opportunities that stretch the imagination and encourage investigation, decision-making, and problem-solving. The classroom is divided into learning centers where the children will have the choice to explore as they please throughout the day. We will also take our learning outside to the garden space and indoors to the enrichment room where we will utilize the Smart Board. This year we will travel around the city of Piqua to places like the grocery store and library to give the children a hands-on experience of their community. If any family member is interested in volunteering in the classroom you are more than welcome. Also, if any family member has a particular skill they would like to share with the class that is also welcomed! Whether it’s cooking, art, music, or computer skill – we would be thrilled to have you.
It is our goal to provide your child with purposeful play so they can be well prepared for kindergarten and beyond.
