St. Patrick Classroom

In preschool the children learn through play. By learning through play, with the different centers set up around the classroom, they will develop cognitive skills, fine/gross motor skills, and social/emotional skills. Name writing practice, oral/visual/writing introduction to letters, their sounds, and what words begin with each letter will be introduced. We will be introducing numbers, shapes, and colors.

5 Day Pre-Kindergarten Class

Pre-kindergarten is for children who are, or almost, five years old. The Pre-K class meets every day Monday through Friday from 9:00-11:30a.m. We do our best to prepare the students for kindergarten. We follow the Creative Curriculum and Handwriting Without Tears. We learn about a different letter each week. We learn the letter sounds and practice writing the letters in our own alphabet books. We do beginning writing in our journals. We learn how to write our first and last names. We also learn about a different number each week. We classify, pattern, sequence, group sets and addition up to 5. We also count to 100. We use the Allelu program for religion. We go outside or go to the gym for large motor activities.

The Center For Early Learning

We take three field trips. We go to Fulton Farms to go pumpkin picking. We also go to the Troy Fire Station to learn about fire safety. Then we walk across the street to mail a letter at the Troy Post Office. Lastly, we go to the Dayton Philharmonic Magic Carpet concert to introduce the students to instruments.  We are also fortunate enough to have the Dayton Philharmonic String Quartet come visit our school and preschool. The string quartet tells a story using instruments!

We have a Thanksgiving Feast for the parents! We make vegetable soup and dress like Native Americans and Pilgrims and sing for you!   At the end of the year there is a graduation in the evening so everyone can attend.  There is French enrichment too and we sing Happy Birthday in French all year long. At Christmas we learn two carols in French. At the end of the year, we make our own passports and take a pretend trip to France! We learn a little about the French colors, greetings, food and culture!
